Given that putting is so integral to the success – or otherwise – of anyone’s round, it is surprising that the No 1-ranked player in the world, Rory McIlroy, has always struggled on the greens. On the 2019 PGA Tour stats he ranked 24th in putting, and before that was 97th in 2018, 159th in 2017 and 139th in 2016.
Now, in an attempt to improve his touch, he has got a new putter. It is the same TaylorMade Spider X Copper, but instead of his customary 34-inch shaft, he switched to a 35-inch.
