A brand new event celebrating Britain’s most popular car brand is set to become one of the biggest highlights of the show calendar when it opens its doors for the first time in April 2016. The International Ford Show will be held at Sandown Park, Surrey, on the outskirts of London, on the weekend of 30 April 30-1 May, and will bring together fans of the blue oval from all over the globe. He’d been tinkering with VWs for years, including a new Beetle, but eventually hit a creative brick wall and was after something fresh. “On the VW scene it didn’t matter what I did, as someone had probably done it all before,” says Karl. “It was getting a bit much. Doughnuts around an SVT Raptor This photo is pretty insane because this was the first shot Ken had to do for the entire production, and we only had a small window of opportunity to get it correct, which meant only two takes. He nailed it on the first one. The road we were on, Sheikh Zayed Road, is a 12-lane highway, the largest in Dubai. It was shut down for about an hour that morning, just for the shoot. You don’t have to be some sort of hardcore detailing buff to use a tyre dressing. Contra to popular belief, many are as much about protection from the elements as they are about looking good at any show ‘n’ shine. The fact is, no matter if you’re a fast road tuner, show regular or something of a drift magician, decent tyres are expensive. So it makes sense to keep them in good condition. Nowadays we hear the phrase “no compromise” all the time and it’s nearly always stretching the truth. Check out a no compromise 1.2-litre family hatchback as it asthmatically chugs itself up the mildest of inclines. Or that no compromise, 200-grand supercar – true, it might catch fire on a hot day and shred its tyres on every little pothole, but at least you’ll look cool on the back of the recovery truck. Okay, okay, a Nissan Skyline R32 isn’t exactly the most subtle of cars in factory form, but even we’ll admit we were taken aback by just how arresting Jonathan Elias’ example is in the metal. Granted, the car’s selection of tweaks, bodywork additions and gargantuan engine spec are at least partly responsible for this ability to stand out amongst anything this side of a Ferrari F40 convention. But most credit should go to that shockingly lurid shade of fuchsia pink. There’s something that feels kinda wrong about the car world going nuts over what’s essentially a workhorse designed to pick up scrap and move motors from one exhibition to another. Back in November this all American monster rolled into SEMA and far from dropping its rather expensive consignment and being relegated to the enormous loading bay out back with all the other massive haulers, it took centre stage at the show.
