The thing about ARs is they pretty much all look alike. If you want to stand out, or blend in, a paint job is the way to go. You can get a professional to do it, but using spray paints is also an easy D.I.Y. project. With a little time, effort and creativity, you can create a professional-looking paint job. And, the same techniques can be used with any of your gear. The materials you need are simple. (This varies some depending on what method you’re using.) For a camo job, use “flat” paint that doesn’t have a shiny finish. I use Aervoe-Pacific camo paint from Brownells. It comes in a variety of colors, covers extremely well and dries quickly. It’s safe to say that I go back a ways with chassis rifles and Howa firearms manufacturing. I’ve hauled around my personal Weatherby Vanguard Back Country in .257 Weatherby Magnum for many years, and because the folks at Howa manufacture the Vanguard action and barrel, I feel pretty safe in saying that the Howa is a top-end barreled action, and well worthy of respect among serious shooters. A spotting scope moves things. It pulls things tiny with distance right into your hand. But the “Big Eye” is cumbersome too. On a hunt, you must weigh the benefits of detailed looks at distance against the various costs of making them. Spotting scopes date way back. Bushnell’s new Engage rifle-scopes are built to be affordable while offering ample features. Either defective from the manufacturer or damaged through use, magazines can and do cause many of the feeding issues shooters experience. Unlike your handgun, a magazine is not a tool that will potentially last you the rest of your life. Many shooters forget this and do not take the necessary steps to circumvent potential problems. • The first thing you should do is purchase high-quality magazines; the device that feeds ammunition to your pistol is not the place to be skimping. • Secondly, you should take care of those magazines; after every range session or use, take the time to inspect and clean them. • And finally, number your magazines. The sleek and streamlined Savage Model 1895 looked like something out of the future when it appeared in the last decade of the 19th century. It was the first firearm produced by the Savage Repeating Arms Company, and its slim, flat, hammerless design was in sharp contrast to the popular, visible-hammer models available from Winchester and Marlin since the 1860s. The rounded profile let shooters know that something new in hunting rifles had arrived. The 1895 was unique in many respects. Its internal rotary magazine was the first of its type and was designed for cartridges with pointed bullets, unlike the tubular-fed Winchesters and Marlins that were limited to round-nose bullets. New rifle cartridges come along all the time, but relatively few manage to stand the test of time. The 6.5 Creedmoor is a notable exception to this rule. The brainchild of ever-innovative Hornady engineers, the 6.5 Creed-moor has been with us for about a decade now.
