Fundraising for a Spinner’s Cottage
A t first glance, the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum (AGSEM) might not seem like a destination spot for textile enthusiasts. While the museum is home to many historical tractors, automobiles, and steam engines, it also boasts a weaving barn with fifty looms, an annual fiber arts fiesta, and weaving classes and workshops. In 2013, Suzie Henzie, a collector of looms, spinning wheels, and other historical and international fiber-related tools, donated her entire collection to the AGSEM.
The AGSEM is also the home of the Palomar Handweavers’ Guild (PHG), whose members help out the museum by teaching classes, demonstrating their skills for visitors, and hosting the Vista Fiber Arts Fiesta. Together with the PHG, the museum was able to raise enough funds to build…
