The GOP-controlled legislature hasn’t shown much interest in legalization, and Bama has no ballot-initiative process. The maximum fine for possessing even a small amount of pot is a whopping $6,000, plus possible jail time; a second offense can get you five years. North Dakota A first-time possession charge carries possible incarceration, and holding any amount of hash or concentrate can mean spending the next five years in prison. A new study refutes previous claims that teenage pot use saps intelligence. The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, relied on IQ tests given to 3,066 participants at two different ages. The study’s subjects were first given an intelligence test between the ages of nine and 12—prior to ever smoking marijuana—and tested again between the ages of 17 and 20, after some had smoked pot occasionally or regularly. A comparison of their test scores revealed no direct correlation between cannabis use and a loss of reasoning ability. The study also analyzed pot’s effect on twins. Twins are considered superior test subjects, since they’re raised in the same environment and share the same DNA. Researchers studied 290 pairs of twins and found no variation in intelligence…

Modern cultivation techniques produce seriously potent strains of pot. But a plant scientist from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, believes he can do better. Mike Dixon boasts more than 20 years of experience in plant-based innovations. Vegetative vs. Flowering Growth Cannabis plants have two distinct stages: vegetative and flowering growth. In the vegetative stage, seedlings placed under proper light will continue to grow taller, spreading their branches and creating more shoots until the light cycle is shortened to 12 hours per day or less. Green Life Oregon, located in the coastal town of Gold Beach, is responsible for bringing legal weed to your driver-side window. In a recent interview with the New York Times Magazine, Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz went on the record as an out-of-touch prohibitionist. Despite a majority of her party favoring legalization, Schultz opposes legalizing even medical marijuana. A Connecticut man who was the victim of a home invasion wound up in handcuffs, charged with a number of pot-related offenses after calling the police. William Frascatore called the cops to report that two men had broken into his house, tied him up, and stolen jewelry and a cell phone. When police arrived at Frascatore’s home, they discovered cannabis growing in the basement. This shifted their attention from the armed and violent criminals to the man who had called them for help. After securing a warrant, the cops seized several plants, dried cannabis and some grow gear. Frascatore is one of Connecticut’s few licensed medical pot patients. A correction officer’s attempt to smuggle synthetic pot into a New York City jail was thwarted by a chocolate Lab named Gunner. Officer Mohammed Sufian wrapped over two ounces (61.6 grams) of the popular fake pot K2 in electrical tape and stuffed the bundles in his socks. But before he could sneak the goods into the NYC jail complex known as Rikers Island, Gunner the police dog sniffed out the synthetic weed. A search of Sufian’s home revealed another 126 grams of K2, as well as a package of tobacco—all of which was destined for Rikers, according to prosecutors. The “land down under” will allow cannabis to be cultivated for medical and research purposes, thanks to a measure passed by the Australian Parliament. The new law officially amends the national Narcotic Drugs Act of 1967 and establishes a legal medical pot program in the country. However, recreational cultivation and use remain strictly prohibited. Australia’s medical cannabis program is still in the planning stages but, according to lawmakers, patients with a valid prescription will have access to pot grown in the country. Previously, growing pot was prohibited, while importing it, even for research purposes, is extremely costly.
