At three years of age, Peter Ceredig-Evans’ father created him an easel. When he was unable to get Peter away from it, it became clear he had a great interest in drawing. Twenty three years old and living in London, Bridgette enrolled herself in a five-week fine arts evening course at Central Saint Martins. This kitchen is a true entertainer’s delight. It has real presence in the central part of the home and leads out to an alfresco dining area on one side and a pool/conservatory on the other. Set within a freshly minted residential estate, this project, dubbed Op9 House, encompasses a duo of dwellings: the main 350m2 house and the 75m2 “little brother” located discreetly at the property’s rear. The main home was designed to accommodate a large family, including an older generation, with the secondary dwelling to be used as a guesthouse. Sydney-based architecture firm Office 88 was given the client’s brief to design a timeless home that would remain current into the next decade. This Edwardian home’s previous bathrooms were tired and limited in facilities and the homeowners were not happy with the mismatch of materials. So they embarked on a renovation and decided to reconfigure the spaces to provide the facilities required for a family home, while ensuring a sense of flow between the rooms. The homeowners requested a minimalist, semi-industrial design with complementary finishes. Plentiful storage that doesn’t obstruct the desired minimalist aesthetic was also a must for both spaces. Located on the ground floor, the main bathroom’s standout feature is the copper bath, which complements the era of the home. For many of us struggling with hectic day-to-day lives, sustaining a high-maintenance garden is out of the question. While we would all love a backyard resplendent with roses and seasonal greenery, gardening doesn’t always make its way to the top of our to-do lists.
