Twisted rib is a fancy variation of the 1x1 or 2x2 rib. On the RS row, you knit into the back loop of each knit stitch. On the WS row, you purl into the back loop of each purl stitch. On the front (RS), this creates columns of little knit stitches that look closer to a braid than the ordinary ‘v’ shape of a knit stitch. Twisted rib also makes a firmer fabric than a basic rib.
