It enabled the architect to combine his aesthetic, a style that revisits the 50s and 70s, with the brief from his client, who wanted a rigorous and modern restyling. The outcome is that the renovated interiors are minimalist yet welcoming, while the combinations of varied materials animates a lively stylistic interplay. PROJECTS This story of timeless yarns and textiles began overseas in 2020, when the VVDA practice headed by Vincent Van Duysen designed the Loro Piana store in the Meatpacking District, New York. It continued in 2022 at Via della Moscova in Milan, where the Maison has established its headquarters, uniting functions and spaces, offices and boutiques, and asked the Belgian architect to imagine its chosen home in the Cortile della Seta, a complex built in the second half of the 19th century for storing and marketing rolls of silk. ANNIVERSARIES MISCHER’TRAXLER: DESIGN NOUVEAU The Austrian duo of designers was called in by the Perrier-Jouët champagne house to create a limited edition bottle for the Belle Epoque cuvée celebrating the 120th anniversary of its iconic symbol: the Japanese anemone designed by Art Nouveau pioneer Emile Gallé. With a contemporary technology and vocabulary, Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler designed the anemone in a colorful and multi-layered representation. The lighting expertise of L&L Luce&Light today enables us to appreciate more fully the visit to an archaeological jewel unknown to most people: the hypogeum of Santa Maria in Stelle, not far from Verona. Set beneath the church of Santa Maria Assunta, the hypogeum was originally built in Roman times as an aqueduct. Then over the centuries it underwent many developments: from a nymphaeum for a pagan cult built by Publius Pomponius Cornelianus in the third century AD to a place of early Christian worship in the fourth century, until its consecration in the twelfth century, when it was adapted to liturgical celebrations by Pope Urban III.
