For the first time since 2015, the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) has a new champion. Toprak Razgatlioglu of the Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK team clinched the title at the final round of the 13-round 2021 season, ending Jonathan Rea’s six-year hold on the championship. The Motul FIM Superbike World Championship has released their first provisional calendar for the 2022 season. Reflecting this year’s COVID-19 adjustments, the 2022 schedule follows a similar pattern, with the flyaways – including an Australian round – backended in the 13-round calendar. As in 2021, the 2022 season will start later than usual, kicking off at Aragon in April, followed by eight more European rounds, including two in Portugal, before the first flyaway round at Argentina in October. Mandalika, the all-new venue in Indonesia that hosted the 2021 WSBK season finale, returns, with Phillip Island back on the calendar after being cancelled in 2021. I’ve tried a few dash cams of late and the STZ-RF200WD MotoCam from Kenwood is one of the most interesting and innovative. Kenwood are billing their MotoCam as being developed specifically for motorcycle use, which means it can also be employed on ATVs and Side by Sides. The sportsbike icon that is the CBR900RR Fireblade turns 30 in 2022 and Honda are celebrating with the release of a special 30th Anniversary edition of the latest CBR1000RR-R SP. The milestone model will only be produced in limited numbers, but will benefit from a number of mechanical and electronic improvements applied to the regular MY22 Fireblade SP. The updates start with revisions to the intake ports, airbox, airbox funnels and exhaust mid-section, which have no impact on maximum power and torque numbers (160kW at 14,500rpm and 113Nm at 12,500rpm) from the liquid-cooled 1000cc inline four, but smooth out the airflow and adjust the intake port configuration. This year’s mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul (ASBK) was once again compromised by COVID-19, but the series has been completed and Wayne Maxwell is the champion for 2021. Riding the Boost Mobile Racing with K-Tech Ducati Panigale V4R, Maxwell backed up his 2020 crown with this year’s title, meaning the 39-year-old is now a three-time ASBK champion (five if you count the AFX and Australasian series). This year, only three ASBK rounds were completed under somewhat normal circumstances, with proposed rounds at Phillip Island, Symmons Plains and Morgan Park all cancelled due to COVID-19 border restrictions and related complications.
