There seems to be a lot of debate and discussion on the amazing properties of CPM-3V. Simply put, as long as the heat treat is done properly, you can expect wear resistance about 50 percent better than D-2 with the ability to harden to RC 56-60, and impact resistance greater than A-2, D-2, Cru-Wear or CPM-M4. For large choppers it is an amazing steel due to its toughness, while for smaller bushcraft-style knives, it holds an amazing edge—again providing the heat treat is on point.
