Chocoholics recently battled it out when Scottish confectionary firm, Mackies, beganrecruitment for a chief chocolate taster for their new million dollar Aberdeenshire factory . Scientists at the Linköping University in Sweden have demonstrated that it is possible to create an electric circuit within a plant. Researchers were able to weave electronics into the vascular system of living plants in a breakthrough that can potentially allow the conversion of photosynthesis into power.The team at Linköping University trialled the theory on a garden rose by placing it into a basin of water that contained a soluble polymer which conducts electricity. It was reported that as the rose absorbed the water, it also took in the electronic material which became a part of the flower’s biology. Designs for a new train collection due to start service on the cross-London line in 2017 have been unveiled. Constructed by Bombardier, the Crossrail trains will accommodate 1,500 passengers with each train being one and a half times longer than the existing longest Tube. They will also feature free Wi-Fi for commuters. SHAME OF THE MONTH I am a serious sleepwalker and my whole family gets a laugh out of it. One morning I got up super early in my sleep just as my sister was leaving for school. Police in Perth are baffled by a group of rebels who have been cruising around town on motorised picnic tables.The troublesome trend was posted on West Australia Police’s Facebook page and showed images of the rolling tables supported by a status stating, “Scarborough Police are currently investigating the use of motorised picnic tables that have been seen travelling in the Scarborough Beach area” Police raised concerns given the portable picnic-goers were riding without protective clothing and said, “There are overall safety concerns particularly if a traffic incident was to occur, resulting in the persons subjecting themselves to potential injury.”The social media post quickly gained over 42,000 likes and 19,000 shares. A London-based filmmaker and journalist is appealing for donations to a Kickstarter project that if successful will see him submit a film of paint drying to the British Board of Film Classification. Charlie Lyne’s mischief making plan is based on his protest over censorship where the artist explained the British Board of Film Classification “continues to censor and in some cases ban films, while UK law ensures that, in effect, a film cannot be released in British cinemas without a BBFC certificate.” Arguing that many independent filmmakers are prohibited by the upfront payment, Lyne confirmed his plan was to use the donations made to the crowd-funding site to pay for a BBFC certificate himself. A Massachusetts resident named Lindsay Miller has won the right to wear a kitchen strainer on her head in her American driver’s licence photo.The woman who identifies herself as a Pastafarian, a member of a parody religion, the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, was previously told by her local Registry of Motor Vehicles that she could not wear the kitchen item in her photo. According to the department website, people are not allowed to wear a hat or other head coverings, except for medical or religious reasons. Miller enlisted the help from a lawyer from the American Humanist Association who launched an appeal on her behalf. Cat owners may have a fresh technique to combat the challenge for ongoing feline affection. A soloist with the United States National Symphony Orchestra in New York, David Teie, has recently collaborated with animal scientists to create “Music for Cats” which features a collection of whirring, lilting and sometimes squeaky tracks specifically designed for the feline brain and ears. Charles Snowdon, a psychology professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, assisted Teie on the project and explained that cats’ hearing develops differently to humans so by using special instruments and tonal mixing “Music For Cats” aims to close that sensory gap. Technology giant, Google, are currently designing and testing a self-driving car. However, one was recently pulled over by Californian police because it was travelling too slow!The Google self-driving car prototype was stopped in Mountain View, California, because its slow speed was creating a backlog of traffic.The police department reported in a blog post that, “The officer stopped the car and made contact with the operators to learn more about how the car was choosing speeds along certain roadways and to educate the operators about impeding traffic” The Google Self-Driving Car Project argued that the vehicle had selected the maximum speed of around 40 kilometres per hour in a 56 kilometre zone because of “safety reasons” Google added that they want the cars to “feel friendly and approachable, rather than zooming…

Children’s author, Ian McIntosh, has enlisted the help from north Queensland kids in an attempt to achieve the world record for the most number of people wearing sock puppets at one time. Based in Townsville, Mclntosh believes he has a good shot at securing the record which currently stands at 250 puppets.
