Background One of the most instantly recognisable of interior accessories, the Bourgie table lamp has been illuminating our homes for more than a decade now, but its take on baroque style has proved to be remarkably adaptable, subtly changing its look over the years, yet still retaining its status as a standout piece of modern design. She has more than her fair share of talents: Anna Burles worked in publishing and as a reporter before turning her clever stylist’s eye to interiors, establishing design studio Run for the Hills with her graphic-designer husband Chris Trotman, eight years ago. Griddled courgette and halloumi salad Serves 6 * 4 medium courgettes* 5tbsp extra-virgin olive oil* 1tbsp thyme leaves* handful mint leaves, shredded* juice of 1 lemon* 500g halloumi cheese, cut into 1cm slices* 2tbsp flaked almonds lightly toasted Using a vegetable peeler or mandolin, slice the courgettes lengthwise into ribbons. Toss in 1tbsp of olive oil with the thyme and season with salt and pepper. Place a griddle pan over a high heat until smoking hot. Griddle single layers of the courgette ribbons in batches for about a minute on each side until well marked and softened. Set aside until they are all cooked. PERFECT MATCH Anthropologie and Bethan Gray have a design DNA so similar, it makes us wonder how they’ve never crossed paths before. The pairing is set to mark September’s London Design Festival with the launch of an anticipated furniture collection. ‘We strive for a fresh take on femininity and choose the understated, warm colours that come with that,’ says Bethan, noting soft hues of rose pink, charcoal, mint green and brass used across the collection. ‘But it goes beyond the visual to a passion for craft, natural materials and using them to tell stories.’ The tale being told here? There are a million reasons why a person falls in love with their home. For Massimo and Jessica Minale, it wasn’t the bricks and mortar. In fact, Massimo describes the house as looking ‘really horrible’ when he saw it for the first time. It was the stunning views from the back garden that seduced the couple. Because, as far as the eye can see, the Mälaren, Sweden’s third largest lake, sits on the horizon, shimmering in the milky summer sunshine and looking radiant enough to induce feelings of soporific, aren’t-I-lucky-to-be-here calm. ‘SHE NEEDED A MAKEOVER,’ says designer Britt Zunino of the colonial-style house she renovated for a young family in Greenwich, Connecticut. ‘If it were a person, I imagined it as a mum with five kids, who really needed a holiday – and I say that as a mother of four. She was tired. But Tone Kroken, an interior architect and designer, flipped the familiar on its head when she decided to sell her farmhouse, with its picture-window views of waves and fields on the Norwegian island of Brønnøya, to move to an apartment in the heart of Oslo.
