Get ready for the cheeriest of seasons as sunny pollen-yellow breezes through the lands of design. This not-so-mellow shade is an instant mood-lifter, bringing optimism to even the dullest of days. EXPERT TIP For design lovers, your outdoor space will be just as important as your indoor – it’s all about the details. Firstly, ensure your outdoor room is situated in ‘the part of the garden you really want to sit in,’ says UK garden designer and landscape architect Juliet Hutt. ‘Lighting can massively extend how you use your garden, whether it’s uplighting trees or having sockets for lamps – I’m currently obsessed with Jean-Philippe Weimer and Peter Zumthor lights for Viabizzuno. TRICKS OF THE TRADE When choosing your plants, consider what will be simple to maintain and hardy enough to stand up to a bit of rough and tumble. Incorporate wildlife features to feed your kids’ inquisitive minds. Insect hotels, bird feeders and ponds (covered by a metal grill) are all winners. Try setting aside an area where they can plant easy-to-grow fruit, veg and flowers, such as strawberries, beans, lettuce and sunflowers.
