The pre-teen years are often a time where many kids are picking up new hobbies, like sports, video games or musical skills (or already have their heads firmly buried in a smartphone). Genesis Hall chose something a little less conventional. “When I was just 10 years old, a friend of mine mentioned to me that she was taking sewing classes at a local children’s sewing studio,” she says. “After about six months of learning basic sewing techniques, I later found out that the sewing studio held monthly teenage quilt guild meetings to make charity quilts for people in the community.
