What’s happened to the 27–inch iMac? Will we ever see a 27–inch or larger iMac? When was the last 27–inch iMac released? THE iMAC IS a desktop with an impressive history. First introduced in 1998, a new edition was soon released in five colors. A little over two decades later, and Apple returned to this theme with the Apple silicon M1 iMac, which is available in seven colors; Green, Yellow, Orange, Pink, Purple, Blue, and Silver, or just Blue, Green, Pink or Silver for the least expensive model. THE MACBOOK PRO is for anyone who wants more from their mobile Mac. Does it have more power? Obviously. More screen space? Probably. And what about connectivity? Definitely! Some examples — like those in our top 5 box on page 57 — can be installed natively, but others require a form of virtualization called Docker. Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit is actually based on an existing software tool called CrossOver. This was developed by CodeWeavers to help Mac fans get their favorite Windows games and apps running on the Mac. However, CrossOver itself is based on an open–source project called WINE — which stands for “Wine is not an emulator”. That name emphasizes the difference between “emulation” programs like Parallels Desktop and VMware Fusion, and the “translation” features provided by WINE, CrossOver, and Apple’s own Game Porting Toolkit. PREVIEW HAS BEEN around as long as Mac OS X and yet in those 20 years, few have given it a second thought. It may have started out as a way to view PDFs, but it’s so much more than that now.
