Macworld Lab received two new iMacs—build-to-order systems with the fastest optional processors and equipped with the new Fusion Drive—and we decided to see how these maxed-out models performed in our lab tests. The new iMacs come in four standard configurations, all with updated processors and graphics, and all with 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM and 1TB hard drives; see our review of the standard 21.5-inch models on page 12 for more details. My favorite interface feature is a built-in browser that allows you to navigate the Web and that lets the app automatically fill in forms for you using your secure data. The latest version of iTunes (go.macworld.com/itunes11) makes a number of changes to the way you view the content in your library of digital media files. Most significantly, iTunes 11 adds a new set of views and gets rid of most of the viewing options that were available in previous versions. With iTunes 10, you could view your music (and other media content) in any of four ways—via List view, Album List view, Grid view, or Cover Flow view. HAND-ON Many shoot-and-share-video options are available via the Apple App Store. But none of them had YouTube in its name—until now. Google, the parent of YouTube, which is practically synonymous with home-made video, has released YouTube Capture (go.macworld.com/capture), a free app for shooting and sharing video on your iPhone or iPod touch. AppleScript appeared in System 7.1 in October 1993 as the first and eventually canonical Open Scripting Architecture (OSA) scripting language. The idea at the outset was that OSA would provide a low-level architecture for scripting at both the inter-and intra-application levels. In other words, it would act as a consistent, system-wide mechanism for multiple applications to communicate and exchange data, and for users to automate tasks within any scriptable application. Instead of leaving it up to each application to create its own macro language (inevitably incompatible with others), there would be one universal way for Mac apps to be automated. Despite its status as one of the early popular photo-sharing sites, Flickr has seen its domain increasingly threatened by Facebook on the Web and Instagram in the mobile realm. Sony put a larger sensor and a better processor into a smaller body, and created a camera that exceeded my expectations in almost every way. Apple tends to be pretty tight-lipped about acknowledging software bugs. It doesn’t even like to use the word “bug.” Rather, it refers to fixing “issues.” However, Apple’s support articles sometimes include information about bugs that Apple is currently working to resolve. Apple has reported that it sold a “record” 2 million units of the new iPhone 5 during its first three days on sale in China. However, the Streaming Stick works only with sets that support MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link), a relatively new standard for high-def connections between various devices (including cell phones and tablets) and HDTVs. View Tweets Made by Your Contacts If you keep track of the Twitter handles of your friends and colleagues in your Contacts, you can easily view any tweets that those people have posted to their Twitter accounts. To do so, simply open a card in Contacts, click Twitter, and choose View Tweets. But after I up-graded to Mountain Lion and downloaded a compatible version of Onyx, I find that I can’t open it because I didn’t get it from the Mac App Store. What’s going on?
