DR B CLARK | Southbroom PAM Lentin’s letter on world overpopulation refers (The Mercury, August 12). I echo her concern as to why, when population issues are brought up, they are ignored by all, including governments.
The overpopulation pandemic is the basic cause of all our problems, including starvation, poverty, pollution, illiteracy and global warming.
It is the poorest places, the UN notes, where population growth is most concentrated, where it becomes impossible to eradicate hunger and malnutrition or reduce inequality and poverty. It is impossible to create jobs for the masses. It is thus difficult to provide basic services, health and education facilities.
Are we blind or stupid or do we just not want to see what is staring us in the face? The poor are left…
