LATEST ACROSS THE ATLANTIC Some upcoming plastic and 3d models Wargames Atlantic are busy cranking out yet more new stuff. From about the time of publication they are taking pre-orders for the German HMG Teams in their War to End All Wars range. Made in hard-plastic the sprues seems to have gunners, spotters and loaders lying down with a choice of heads (gas masks, helmets, pickelhaubes and stahlhelms) and what look like Maxim 08 weapons. Switching to fantasy (but almost staying with a WWI theme) the new Quar figures to flesh out the hard plastic boxed sets are Fidwogs. INTRODUCTION At first light on July 1 1863, General Reynolds ordered up his First Corps to support Buford’s cavalry should the Confederates be tempted to make for Gettysburg. As Reynolds headed north, Henry Heth’s division of Hill’s Confederate Corps was closing on Gettysburg from the west using the Chambersburg Pike. Heth’s lead brigade ran into Buford’s cavalry picket around three miles out of the town. By 1000 the Confederates had reached Herr Ridge a mile further on and they could see Buford forming up on McPherson’s Ridge. VAMPIRIC INTRODUCTION In Oathmark, vampires are extremely uncommon; in fact, North Star only produce one, and he is the top undead commander, leading an army of Oathmark undead rather than hunting down virgins. I have painted various vampires over the years – for Frostgrave particularly – but also for Dracula’s America, so I was tasked me with this one. INTRODUCTION Towards the end of the Hussite Wars King Sigismund hired John Hunyadi and his mercenary lancers. He was to create a professional army for the king and is generally credited for using war wagons and gunpowder weapons in the field against the Ottomans. The tactic was a simple one. He would lure the Ottomans into attacking his ‘wagenburg’ (essentially a secure formation of wagons lashed together) and then hit the Ottomans in the rear with his cavalry. In one battle he deployed as many as 3,000 war wagons and another account suggests that he may have even had 9,000 available to him. This month’s tutorial shows how I rebuilt a simple Halloween decoration and painted it for use on the wargame table. The basic MDF kit was bought from Hobbycraft (a UK based arts and craft store) for just £4.00 back in August and I had hoped to get it completed in time for the October issue but this was not to be. I started putting the kit together as per the instructions but felt that it was rather too simple and lacked any real character. I therefore started to remodel the flat panels with insulation foam and DAS modelling clay, but even this was not satisfying me.
