“Steeped” is a word used too often to describe authors who really aren’t. Hans Tanner, though, was more than steeped in Ferrari lore and European road racing of the early postwar period. He belonged to the sport, and—in a way—at least a piece of the sport belonged to him.
Born in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, he lived in Modena for 10 years, immersing himself in the development of Ferrari automobiles and in the parallel growth of Italian road racing, almost from their postwar beginnings.
