I suppose it’s okay to call this vintage Moses. While it may be his first book, Sam has surely pumped out several books’ worth of words for Sports Illustrated, and not just on motor racing, either.
While this work lacks certain qualities shared by those of Joseph Conrad and Herman Melville, and despite Sam’s failure to commence his tale with “Call me Moses,” “Fast Guys, Rich Guys and Idiots” has a narrative strength reminiscent of the gripping novels of those two master storytellers. Aye, mate, and Sam Moses chases his own white whale through the whole 388 pages, as well.
But this isn’t fiction.…
