Though originally from Manchester, England, Sharda Spahr moved to Naples with her family in 1972. In 2011, recognizing a growing younger demographic in Southwest Florida, she acquired Old Naples Surf Shop (oldnaplessurfshop.com) and expanded its offerings for surfers. “I wanted to run a local institution and bring it back to its roots, then build on that concept,” says Spahr. Located three blocks from the Naples Pier, the shop is known for its variety of surf, skim, and stand-up paddleboards, as well as gear and beach fashion. It also rents boards, and a team of instructors offers paddleboard lessons, skimboard clinics, fitness classes, and eco-tours. Technicolor Cartagena

Painting a picture of Cartagena requires an expansive palette of electric pastels. A streak of aqua signifies the Caribbean Sea lapping against the well-worn walls of this ancient port city. Various shades of purple and pink form the bougainvillea blooming from the balconies of seventeenth-century homes. Dream became reality in April during a special event at Le Lafayette, the classic French restaurant owned and operated by chef Sebastien Maillard. The occasion was a stellar tasting of wines from the personal collection of Francois Louis Vuitton, the great-great-grandson of the fashion icon, accompanied by a special menu created by the chef. The wines were presented by Emmanuel (“Manny”) Burnichon, a wine importer and friend of Vuitton’s, who shared his expertise with guests when Francois was unable to attend. Sense of Place

Wynnell Schrenk, philanthropist and 14-year Naples resident, exudes a sense of wanderlust. Besides spending about four months each year in New York, her travels have extended around the globe with trips to more than 95 countries. In an effort to inspire high school arts students to hone their talents and pursue their passion, Schrenk and her husband, George, founded Schrenk Student Photography Institute 12 years ago.
