SPOTLIGHT ELEGANCE ON DISPLAY Known for her iconic white blouses, Anne Fontaine has a passion for fashion. Born and raised in Brazil, the creative who loved to draw and sketch clothing as a child, moved to Paris when 17 years old. At age 22, she launched a collection of ready-to-wear women’s apparel at her eponymous Paris boutique alongside her partner and husband, Ari Zlotkin. Soon after, they opened stores in Boston and Tokyo. Naples has been home to an Anne Fontaine boutique since 2006. Last year, the store—which was located at Waterside Shops—moved to Fifth Avenue South. It is one of only 17 boutiques in the United States; there are currently 34 stores worldwide. Fontaine will visit the downtown Naples boutique on January 22, where she will offer styling tips.…

Born “between the wars,” the Art Deco period spanned the 1920s and 1930s. Its formation was a direct response to the fluidity of the Art Nouveau period and the austerity that immediately followed World War I. Art Deco made its grand entrance onto the global stage at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris, and the style quickly spread internationally, influencing everything from the Manhattan skyline to luxury ocean liners steaming across the Atlantic. Art Deco furnishings are identifiable by geometric balance and refined craftsmanship. What inspired you to look to mid-century minimalist painter Leon Polk Smith for the Spring 2026 collection? The spark came when I encountered Smith’s paravent at his 2023 show at Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich. I thought I knew his minimal language, but Seven Involvements in One shifted my perception. It held the room with pulse and bravado, far from anything minimal. How did his artwork influence the designs of the collection? His work made me ask: how far can the pulse of two colors and a line carry a shape? It inspired me to see a garment with the same clarity—simple, direct, built from a grid of lines and colors. Margaret Short brings a lot to the party. Through the company she founded in 2008, Margaret Events, she takes care of planning all the details—from decor and flowers to lighting, entertainment, and food. “I tackle all aspects,” she says. The Naples native first worked in the volunteer center at Community School of Naples, when she moved back to town after completing college in Orlando. In her position she was often organizing events. She discovered she loved the work. Later jobs included serving as a personal assistant to various Naples Winter Wine Festival trustees, where again, she found herself organizing and planning events. “I did not end up where I thought I would be,” she shares, calling her path to founding a successful event company, “a winding one.” Short now plans…

Tania Buckrell Pos regards art as essential to the human experience. As she points out, art is everywhere, seen in everything from an iPhone to an automobile to a house. Celebrating its twentieth year, Empty Bowls Naples is set for January 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Cambier Park. Advance tickets are $40 and available online.
