In planning our all-important first issue 50 years ago, Pete, first editor Ken Elliott, and first publisher George Martin, pulled out the stops. It’s a “who’s who” of outdoor writing circa 1973. That first issue was the only time Elmer Keith’s byline would appear in this magazine. He steadfastly refused to be within the same covers as his nemesis Jack O’Connor.
