SEA MERCY HELPS FIJIANS
It was the most powerful storm to make landfall in the western hemisphere this year and caused surge waves of up to 4m. Villages were badly damaged and 40 people died. Now cruisers have come to the aid of Fijians whose homes were hit by cyclone Winston.
The organisation Sea Mercy, which responded in Tonga in 2014 and Vanuatu in 2015, is sending a volunteer fleet of over 10 boats, including sailing yachts ZaZoo, Shine, and Outsider, loaded with shelter, food, water, and medical supplies and teams to the hundreds of ‘at risk’ islands and coastal areas that can no longer be accessed by road.
