After the success of the Bramley Knitted Map, which is currently on display at the Vyne National Trust House, we embarked on recording the reign of Queen Elizabeth II by creating panels representing the seven decades. They include the coronation, royal wedding, castles and cathedrals, along with British icons, such as James Bond, the Beatles, Chelsea Flower Show, Ascot and the national flags and flowers. Almost everything is made from wool but a few pieces of embroidery and gold work were included, especially in the coach and crown from the coronation. This year saw many of us celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee in various different ways – including lots of fun street parties across the country. One group of knitters from Surlingham, Norfolk decided to celebrate the way they know best – with a fabulous knitted tea party!
