Panasonic has introduced the Lumix GH6, their latest flagship model of the Lumix G Series digital mirrorless camera based on the Micro Four Thirds system standard. The new 25.2-megapixel Live MOS Sensor boasts high-resolution, high-speed signal readout and wide dynamic range, while the new Venus Engine boasts advanced image processing technologies. The GH6 contains V-Log/V-Gamut and provides 12+ stops and even 13+ stops of wide dynamic range using Dynamic Range Boost mode. Tokina has announced the release of SZ 8 mm f/2.8 fisheye lens for Fujifilm X and Sony E-mount APS-C camera systems. The fully manual lens is a compact, lightweight, ultra-wide prime and full-frame fisheye lens that measures 60 mm in diameter, 52 mm in length and weighs 280 g. Reports suggest that the lens incorporates ‘exclusive’ multi-coated optical elements for effective light intake, has a minimum focussing distance of 10 cm, adopts a detachable hood for compatibility with full-frame mirrorless cameras, features a 7 blade aperture diaphragm and comes with an aperture range of f/2.8 – f/22 with a clickless aperture ring for smooth operation in video shooting. Sigma has recently released an update regarding the development status of their three-layer image sensor, Foveon. According to the report, the development of the image sensor is currently underway in collaboration with research institutes in Japan. The report divides its development into three stages wherein Stage 1 includes repeated design simulations of the three-layer structure to confirm that it will function as intended, Stage 2 includes prototype evaluation using a small image sensor with the same pixel size as the product specifications, but, with a reduced total pixel count to verify the performance characteristics of the image sensor in practise and Stage 3 involves final prototype evaluation using a full-frame image sensor.
