When Jason Oliver Nixon andJohn Loecke left New York lifeand their Brooklyn brownstone forthe South, they also left most of their furniture. Starting over in High Point, North Carolina, the pair, who operate the Madcap Cottage interior decorating firm, furnished their 1930s house with a collection from starsand socialites that unfolds as you stroll througheach room.
They accumulated pieces with historic pasts from auctions and rummage sales, like a chair from Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation or Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier’s nightstand. “We don’t think of ourselves as owning furniture, we think of ourselves as stewards of stuff,” Jason says. “The rooms all play together really well, but as you walk through the house, there’s a wonderful story being told.”
