Big upsets took place in the first round of the March Madness tournament. On March 21, Oakland, a team seeded (ranked) 14th, beat Kentucky, a three seed, 80–76. Oakland’s Jack Gohlke hit 10 three-point shots in the game. The next day, Yale, a 13 seed, beat Auburn, a four seed, 78–76. In the second round, Oakland lost, 79–73, to North Carolina State, an 11 seed that had previously knocked out Texas Tech, a six seed.
