Forty years ago, the prospects at Porsche seemed limitless. By 1984, every 911 sold in the US – half the entire production – was bringing Porsche over three times as many Deutschmarks as its dollar selling price. Combined with the steady revenue from the 924-944 range, such wealth engendered both confidence and overambition in Porsche.
