ITâS unlikely anyone will hear anything much stranger this year than BrhyMâs âPlatypus Wowâ. âGot webbed feet, rubber bill, fat-ass tail, furry chillâ, a multi-tracked Bruce Hornsby mumbles to a peculiar accompaniment of squawking, cawing woodwind, adding, âDark purple-green coloured fur/Iâll stick that ass with my poison spurâ. Soon heâs quasi-rapping, joined by mournful strings, unpredictable piano runs and doo-wop harmonies, before concluding, âI light up the world, only for youâ. The sentiment might sound Disneyesque, but Disney this is not.
The third track on Hornsbyâs first fulllength with yMusic â the chamber ensemble favoured by, among others, Bon Iver, The National and Paul Simon â is generally indicative of the enigmatically titled Deep Sea Ventsâ experimental nature. It may, however, come asâŚ
