The very mention of the word summer has me thinking of slow-paced, relaxed months with time for entertaining friends, completing vacation plans, and simply enjoying being outdoors. For my family, the true test of its arrival is finding juicy, sweet seasonal fruits at the local farm stand. Nothing is more fitting than celebrating with sun-kissed peaches and watermelons. I have discovered that porch entertaining is such an easy way to gather a congenial group and create wonderful memories. Looking to botanical artists such as Maria Sibylla Merian and Pierre-Joseph Redouté, Carolyne sought to learn the art form yet set aside the scientific lens, which, for those illustrators, was the focal point. The most memorable summer vacation of my life happened on the white sands of Alys Beach over Labor Day weekend in 2014. I found the beach ready to give me long-awaited answers to several decades of searching. I rented an adult tricycle and rode through the magical, storybook streets in the evenings to savor the moonlight bouncing off the white facades of the houses while relishing the sounds of fountains.
