SHORTLY AFTER 2AM, ON MARCH 28, Samantha Josephson, who had been out with friends, decided to order an Uber. The 21-year-old university student, who had been at the Bird Dog Bar, in Columbia, South Carolina, waited on the footpath, phone in hand. Then, at 2.09am, a car pulled up and Josephson, presumably thinking this was her Uber ride home, got inside.
However, the car was not her Uber, and 14 hours later Stephenson was found dead in a field by turkey hunters, some 144km from where she was picked up by the car in Columbia.
