John Talbot graduated from DePauw University with a Bachelor’s degree in English composition. After college he lived in Japan before settling in New York to pursue book publishing. He first joined Simon & Schuster as an editorial assistant, then worked as an assistant and associate editor at Pocket Books. He moved on to the role of acquisitions editor at Putnam Berkley (now Penguin Random House). There he became a senior editor and worked with Tom Clancy, W.E.B. Griffin, Jack Higgins, and Tom Perrotta. He founded his eponymous literary agency in 1998, joining forces with Gail Fortune in 2005 to form The Talbot Fortune Agency.
