“Personal projects are a combination of love for the concept, and specific technical or artistic challenges you find uncomfortable. What do you struggle with? Do that. Pulling the camera back helps focus on the important things. Ask for advice but don't follow every bit; it's your work! I could have pushed the background further, but it would have been a huge effort.
I used ZBrush for the sculpting, Maya for UVs and some basic geo changes, Substance Painter for texturing, then Blender for the scene setup, environment scattering, groom, surfacing, lighting, rendering and comp.
