Christopher Caskey is a scientist by trade. So it’s little surprise that his flagship business, Delta Brick & Climate Company, was born of a passion for environmental sustainability and energy conservation. The Montrose-based company makes patio pavers, bricks, and decorative ceramic tiles—it recently rebranded the tile-manufacturing arm as Particular Tile—from excess clay sediment that clogs the Paonia Reservoir in western Colorado. Since the reservoir was constructed in 1962, its storage capacity has shrunk by more than a quarter, thanks to the settling mud, which drastically restricts critical water supply to farms, ranches, and orchards in the North Fork Valley. You might expect artist Meredith Steele’s workspace to be as colorful as the vivid abstract and mixed-media paintings that she creates. Karli and Nils Erickson love what you might call bold houses. About a decade ago, the couple hired architects Brad Tomecek and Kevin Sietmann and interior designer Andrea Schumacher—then emerging talents in the Denver design world and now in-demand leaders in their fields—to build an architectural stunner in Denver’s Lower Highland neighborhood.
