Bad news: UV rays could harm your hair follicles, says a new International Journal of Cosmetic Science study. “UV radiation can lead to oxidative DNA damage in the follicle, which can lead to hair loss and less-healthy hair overall,” explains New York City dermatologist Georgina Ferzli. Good news: The study suggests that topical caffeine, an anti-inflammatory, might counteract this damage by reducing inflammation, Ferzli adds. Until there’s enough evidence for dermatologists to prescribe caffeine-containing shampoos, apply sunscreen. “To avoid oiliness, press SPF onto any exposed scalp with a makeup wedge,” says New York City dermatologist Francesca Fusco.…
