Allure, the first and only magazine devoted to beauty, is an insider's guide to a woman's total image. Allure investigates and celebrates beauty and fashion with objectivity and candor, and places appearance in a larger cultural context.
I hope this June/July issue of Allure is a welcome escape for you right now. You won’t be getting a separate July issue next month, but we will be back with the August issue, and your subscription will be extended by one issue. Thank you for your support and for being part of our beauty-loving family. When my daughter Zoe turned six weeks old, she saw her grandparents through a plexiglass storm door. My dad replied, “It was a nice moment, even though for a minute.” Luckily my parents had gotten a chance to hold the baby…

1. OLIVE & JUNE NAIL ART STICKERS. Artistic details are tough to paint onto tiny nails. These delicate add-ons make it a cinch (shown here in Loveliest Day). $7.50. 2. WINKY LUX WATERMELON JELLY LIP BALM. Older kids love how this vegan lip stain goes on clear and then reacts with the lips’ pH level to adjust to a custom pink. $16. 3. PIPETTE BABY LOTION. Want to spice up your look for your next Zoom happy hour? Do as follows: Using a comb, part your hair down the middle. Brush one section upward and outward, and secure with an elastic at the top. Twirl it into a knot but leave out the ends, creating a space bun. (Note: Imperfection is encouraged.) Repeat on the other side, then blanket your hair in texturizing spray or hairspray. Amazing news—you are now wearing the look hairstylist Sam McKnight crafted for Fendi’s spring 2020 show. It’s optional, but you are also welcome to frost your lower lash line with silver glitter, to give the impression you have been crying diamonds. Cheer up: You’re wearing Fendi!…
LOCK IT IN A good rule of thumb is to layer formulas from thinnest to thickest. But if you have especially dry skin, consider adding an oil after moisturizer, since its occlusive properties seal in hydration and help prevent water loss. Another good reason to apply oil second to last: “Once you have oil on, any water-based product [like some serums] won’t penetrate,” says King. PICK YOUR BATTLES While you shouldn’t exfoliate, tone, and use retinol all in the same day, this illustrates the order in which those products can be used when interchanged. Retinol, for one, is not for daytime use (it breaks down in the sun) and shouldn’t be paired with some ingredients, like vitamin C and salicylic acid, says Nussbaum. With retinol, just cleanse, add basic moisturizer…
In honor of our Readers’ Choice Awards, we asked you to tell us your favorite hairstylist and share your top hair questions. Then we connected the dots: You guys: How can you prevent hair from thinning? Ess: It’s important to keep follicles from getting clogged. Exfoliating your scalp reduces product and oil buildup. Try a [weekly] treatment with salicylic acid or a scalp scrub. [Editor’s note: We’ve also talked to dermatologists about this and they agree.] You guys: What is one way to restore a dry, irritated scalp? Ess: I love doing a pre-shampoo oil treatment. I leave it on for an hour or two. Not only does it moisturize a dry scalp, but it also helps protect it from drying out further when you shampoo. You guys: Is there a…
