Now there’s a growing (and long-overdue) push to use agricultural by-products and food waste in beauty products in order to optimize the cosmetics and food industries’ shared supply chains. Each year, as much as 20 percent of the world’s banana production may be discarded due to damage or imperfection, according to one estimate. (That’s about 24 million tons of bananas that go straight to the garbage!)
