OKEECHOBEE, Fla. — The J-5 Ranch Barn Sale is returning to Okeechobee, Florida, on Saturday, April 13, at J-5 Ranch, located at 10406 Bluefield Road. The popular event, which brought in more than 1,200 guests in May 2018 and again in October, is expecting over 2,000 shoppers in April. The sale opens at 8 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. The 5,400 square foot barn and surrounding pasture will be full of vendors from Florida and Georgia specializing in vintage, handmade, repurposed, antique, shabby, primitive, and farmhouse-style items and furniture. The auction will feature more than 350 lots of historic and contemporary western and wildlife paintings and bronzes, Native American arts, Southwestern jewelry, Native American baskets, pueblo pottery, Navajo textiles, and Western design furniture. Among the highlights of the painting session is a work by celebrated Indian portrait artist, Kathryn Woodman Leighton. STURBRIDGE, Mass. — The National Association of Milk Bottle Collectors (NAMBC) will hold its 39th annual Convention at the Sturbridge Host Hotel and Conference Center in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, May 10-11. The event provides association members and non-members the opportunity to share their knowledge and interests plus buy, sell, and trade milk bottles and other dairy items. The two-day event includes educational exhibits, an awards banquet, a hospitality mixer, educational seminars, and a large auction of milk bottles and other dairy memorabilia. NEW BERLIN, Wis. (AP) – A Wisconsin woman has been making custom dolls to celebrate the diversity of children who aren’t well-represented in toy stores. Wisconsin Public Radio reports that former pediatric oncology social worker Amy Jandrisevits started her business, A Doll Like Me, four years ago after she was contacted by an acquaintance whose daughter had her leg amputated. The New Berlin mother was asked if she could make a doll that matched the girl’s appearance. The demand for Jandrisevits’ custom dolls immediately skyrocketed. She had 200 doll orders within two months of operating. Jandrisevits says you almost never see representations of children of color or children with disabilities on a store shelf. Since then, the Macomb County resident has added thousands of other pieces of KISS memorabilia, including guitar picks, casino chips, plates, golf balls, mugs, nutcrackers – and a KISS telephone that plays Rock and Roll All Nite when it rings.
