FACEBOOK HAS REVEALED A NEW PHOTO-MESSAGING APP AFTER ACCIDENTALLY RELEASING IT ON APPLE'S APP STORE. Known as Slingshot, the app's features include sharing photos and videos with friends and sending "reaction shots". Like Snapchat, all images are deleted once sent and users can scribble or type over their photos. Facebook has confirmed Slingshot's existence, but it is not known when the app will be officially released. Reporters from The Verge and TechCrunch took screengrabs of the app's promotional material before it was removed by Facebook. Monday marked Apple's first stock split in nine years, a move designed to make it more affordable to buy shares of the !Phone and !Pad maker. I started using Instagram in late 2011 and was instantly hooked. I have always loved taking pictures but have felt overwhelmed by all the adjustment options offered by apps such as Snapseed and Camera+. Instagram made it easy. After snapping a picture, I could simply add a filter or hit the "lux" button. Voila! A slightly heightened version of reality -usually pictures off lowers or street scenes - went out to all my Instagram followers. Telecommunications company Vodafone's report on government surveillance of its customers in 29 countries reveals more than first meets the eye - and is raising questions from Dublin to Delhi about how much spying on email and telephone chats happens in secret. In Friday's report Vodafone said most countries required the company's knowledge and cooperation to hear phone calls or see emails, but at least six governments have given their security agencies the power of direct access. Vodafone didn't identify the countries that have tapped into its network, but the report provided some clues. An 88-page appendix reveals that five countries-Albania, Egypt, Hungary, Ireland and Qatar - have provisions that allow authorities to demand unfettered access. Netflix will ease up on a month-long finger-pointing campaign that blamed Verizon and other Internet service providers for problems with its video subscription service. The decision, announced in a Monday blog post, follows a legal threat issued by Verizon last week. Netflix is feuding with Internet search providers such as Verizon and Comcast, saying they aren't doing enough to deliver the content that their subscribers want. In many cases, subscribers to high-speed Internet services are trying to stream Netflix videos, which generate about one-third of online traffic in the U.S. during evening hours. The inadequacies of the Internet services often caused glitches in online video streams, according to Netflix. Sony Corp. announced Monday that it's bringing new installments of the popular video-game franchises "Uncharted" and "LittleBigPlanet" to the PlayStation 4 as it celebrated the 6-month-old game console's marketplace triumph. Sony also premiered "Abzu," an undersea odyssey from the creators of the award-winning "Journey" and "Entwined," a psychedelic 3-D flying game.
