Sprint and Dish Network are collaborating on a wireless broadband service targeting underserved areas. The trial in Corpus Christi, Texas, will involve Sprint Corp.’s 4G LTE network and will begin in mid-2014. Dish Network Corp. will install equipment for households to tap the cellular network for basic high-speed Internet services. Many Americans have limited or no access to broadband service because it’s expensive to extend cables to rural areas. Satellite is an option, but it works better for receiving data than sending. Cellular networks could address that limitation - so long as the service doesn’t get too popular that the airwaves become congested. Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman is getting a huge raise as she enters the third year of her attempt to turn around the slumping personal computer and printer maker. Whitman’s annual salary is soaring to $1.5 million from the $1 that she settled for during her first two years on the job, according a regulatory documents filed Tuesday. The raise approved last week is retroactive to Nov. 1, the beginning of Hewlett-Packard Co/s fiscal year. HP said the bigger paycheck will make Whiteman’s salary comparable to what CEOs of similar-sized companies make. HP earned $5 billion on revenue of $112 billion during its last fiscal year. London-based Datawind said it will begin selling its $38 UbiSlate tablet computer in the United States early next year. The company, which claims its tablets outsell Apple’s !Pad in India, plans to sell three models in the United States, ranging in price from $38 to as much as $149 with varying specs and capabilities. Suneet Singh Tuli, Datawind’s CEO, said the company’s goal is to bring the least expensive computers possible to schools and low-income communities. Former Microsoft executive Kurt Del Bene has been hired to oversee the Healthcare. gov website, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sibelius said, Del Bene, who was most recently president of the Microsoft Office Division, starts his job as senior advisor on Wednesday, said Sibelius. “Kurt has proven expertise in heading large, complex technology teams and in product development.
