Google mapped out a key strategy with its $1 billion acquisition of map-software provider Waze on Tuesday. “I am excited to announce today that we have accepted an offer to join Google/' Waze CEO Noam Bardin said in a blog post Tuesday morning. Google would not comment beyond its own blog post announcing the deal, but a source told USA TODAY the deal’s amount. The source asked not to be named because they are not authorized to speak on behalf of the search-engine giant. Google has mulled a deal with Waze since late May, according to Bloomberg News. What if Apple introduced a new handheld product and nobody knew about it? Three computer security researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology are rattling Apple Inc.'s cage, reporting that they have figured out how to hack into mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads through a USB charger. Chengyu Song and Yeongjin Jang, both doctoral students, and Billy Lau, a staff researcher at Tech's College of Computing, said they were able to bypass Apple software security and install "arbitrary software." The three plan to discuss their work _ which Tech says was done in the name of enhancing security _ at next month’s Black Hat computer security conference in Las Vegas. SAN FRANCISCO - Top law enforcement officials from San Francisco and New York plan to meet with some of the nation's largest smartphone makers next week to help thwart the rise in cellphone thefts and robberies. San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman will lead the meeting June 13 in New York City.
