SHANGHAI - A company that supplies accessories for Apple was fined for intentionally discharging pollutants and damaging a river in Shanghai, environmental authorities said Thursday. RiTeng Computer Accessory Co., Ltd. was recently found to have dumped waste fluid into a drainage system, polluting a river in Shanghai’s Songjiang district. The company, a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Pegatron Corp., was also found to have made excessive noise, handled waste improperly and had insufficient environmental protection warrants. The environmental protection bureau of Songjiang has ordered the company to seal off its discharge outlet and clear any waste remaining in the drainage network. NEW YORK-A federal judge is blocking Apple from conducting a shareholder vote on a package of governance proposals, handing a victory to a rebel investor who is trying to persuade the company to share more of its cash with its investors. U.S. District Judge Richard Sullivan in New York ruled Friday that Apple Inc. was wrong to bundle four amendments to its corporate charter into one proposal for a vote at next Wednesday’s annual meeting. Shareholders should get to vote on the amendments separately, he said. SAN JOSE, California-Apple has agreed to give more than $100 million in iTunes store credits to settle a lawsuit alleging that the iPhone and iPad maker improperly charged kids for playing games on their mobile devices. The 2-year-old case centers on allegations that Apple didn’t create adequate parental controls to prevent children from buying extra features while playing free games on iPhones and J¡fa iPads in 2010 and 2011.
