The book publishing world is in upheaval. As print books wane, Amazon, Apple and Google are changing the landscape of e-books. The big six publishers (Random House, Penguin, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Hachette and Simon & Schuster) are beginning the process of rethinking aid repositioning. A rumored low-cost iPhone would cannibalize sales from the more expensive model but give Apple entry into the low-end smartphone market, a U.S. analyst says. Investment analyst Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray said he expects Apple to begin offering a $300 non-subsidized iPhone starting in September, CNET reported Tuesday. The first phase of Apple’s Prineville data center will apparently be relatively small, at least by the standards of custom data centers. Apple won’t discuss the size of its project, but state records show that the company is installing just a quarter of the backup generating capacity of Facebook’s Prineville server farm right up the road. Construction began last fall on the first of two, 338,000-square-foot buildings that Apple plans on the bluff above town. Apple is expanding its data center network to support its iCIoud service, which stores customers’ photos, music, movies and other digital material.
