Auto parts and electronics company Delphi Automotive is joining with Israeli software maker Mobileye to develop the building blocks for a fully autonomous car in about two years. The companies announced their partnership early Tuesday. It’s another in a flurry of auto industry and tech tie-ups as companies race for self-driving supremacy. Delphi and Mobileye plan to build a complete autonomous driving platform that they will sell to automakers worldwide. They promise to demonstrate the technology at January’s Consumer Electronics Show and have it ready for production in 2019. Delphi already has taken an autonomous Audi on a cross-country drive, while Mobileye makes software that processes data from cameras and other sensors. Google is ready to start sending out the latest version of its Android operating system to a handful of devices. The release announced Monday means many Nexus-branded devices should receive a free upgrade to Android 7.0, nicknamed “Nougat,” during the next few weeks. The first models in line include the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G. The Social Security Administration has rolled back extra security measures on the agency’s website after getting complaints from people who had trouble accessing their accounts. For years, workers and beneficiaries have been able to use the My Social Security website to get information about benefits, logging in with a user name and a password. On July 30, the agency began requiring people to sign into their account using a one-time code that was sent to them in a text message. This is a common security method used by banks, credit card companies and other financial institutions to fight identity theft. Twitter has announced two new settings that will allow users to control what they see in their feeds and what notifications they receive. Twitter says in a blog post that it has modified its notification settings to include the ability to see only notifications from people they follow. It’s also introducing what it calls a “quality filter” that it says can improve the quality of tweets users see. Twitter says the feature will filter out duplicate tweets or content that appears to be automated. The announcement from San Francisco-based Twitter comes a month after “Saturday Night Live” and “Ghostbusters” star Leslie Jones publicly called on Twitter to do more to curb harassment on the platform. The FBI is investigating cyber intrusions targeting reporters of The New York Times and is looking into whether Russian intelligence agencies are responsible for the acts, a U.S. official said Tuesday. The cyberattacks are believed to have targeted individual reporters, but investigators don’t believe the newspaper’s entire network was compromised, according to the official, who was briefed on the investigation but was not authorized to discuss the matter by name and spoke on condition of anonymity. France and Germany pushed Tuesday for Europe-wide rules requiring the makers of encrypted messaging apps such as Telegram to help governments monitor communications among suspected extremists. Privacy advocates argue that encryption is essential to online security, notably for banking transactions. But security experts say encrypted apps are increasingly used by extremists to hide their location, coordinate operations and trade weapons and sex slaves. The developer of the world’s largest aircraft says the blimp-shaped airship “sustained damage” after it made a bumpy landing on its second test flight in eastern England. Hybrid Air Vehicles says it is trying to figure out what caused the rough landing of the 302-foot (92-meter) Airlander 10 during its flight Wednesday in Bedfordshire, north of London. In a statement on Facebook it said all “crew are safe and well and there are no injuries.” A hybrid of blimp, helicopter and airplane, the Airlander is able to stay aloft for days at a time.
