There are two very different motorcycles in my garage at the moment. Well, there are actually five very different bikes in there, but for now I want to discuss just two of them. One of the things you get asked a lot as a bike tester is what machine you’d choose if you could only have one in your garage. Sometimes a bike is so capable, so well designed and so practical that it simply nails its design brief. But then, for whatever reason, it seems to fly under many punters’ radars. It might be due to dubious styling, stiff competition from other marques or just a lack of wow factor, but some bikes simply fade into the background behind more exotic or higher-specced (and priced) offerings. This seems to be the case for Kawasaki’s big Versys sports-tourer. The previous Versys 1000 never became as iconic a long-distance legend as, say, Yamaha’s FJR1300.
