This is a proof of a Series of 1875 national from an ultrarare Pennsylvania bank with one reported Original Series $5. The bank was chartered November 28, 1863, under charter 135, liquidated May 2, 1882, because it was a 19-year bank that was about to expire, and succeeded by its reorganized successor, The Second National Bank of Brownsville, charter 2673. At the time it liquidated, it had a circulation of $67,500 with president Joseph T. Rogers and cashier Eli Crumrine, both of whom also served in those positions in their new bank. The low charter number hints that Brownsville was an important town in 1863, and this is true.
