Group 2 clematis
Group 2. It reminds me of when my junior school class was divided up to collect stones from where grass for the new cricket pitch was to be sown. The naughtiest kids were kept close: “Group 1, over there. Group 2, you stay here where I can keep an eye on you.”
Dividing clematis into groups is just as practical and, in this case, all about simplifying the pruning. Group 1 – happy with no pruning. Group 3 – needs hard pruning in spring. Group 2 (featured here) – light pruning, in early summer, after flowering. Once you know the group, pruning is easy.
