Peace on earth
After reading Tales from Titchmarsh (October) about enjoying the sounds of nature, I was reminded of a game I used to play with my youngest daughter before she became a teenager. When walking our dog in our local woodland, to have a break from her incessant (but delightful) chatter, I would say: “Let’s see how many sounds we can hear in the next two minutes.” It was amazing. After walking in silence we reported birds singing, ducks on the canal, the crunching of our boots on the path, our dog’s collar clinking, the wind/rain, faraway traffic, the odd aeroplane, cyclists, etc. It’s a very good and enjoyable way of getting children, and adults, to tune in to the “sounds of the earth” and the world…
