HOW TO SHARPEN A STRAP CUTTER After you read my story about some of today’s top strap cutters on page 24 of this issue, a question you might be asking is, “How in the world do I sharpen such tools?” It’s not really as difficult as you might think. All you need is the correct sharpener. Because you’re sharpening a cutting tool that has limited access to the actual cutting edge, I recommend something like the DMT FSKC serrated sharpener. It is a coarse-grit, diamond-coated, tapered rod commonly known as a rattail file. This year marks the 75th anniversary of many major battles that turned the tide for the Allies in World War II. D-Day, Bastogne, Anzio, Monte Cassino, the Leyte Gulf and more are forever etched in the minds of many millions of people. Yes sir, 1944 was a very bad year for the Axis. As the name suggests, a strap cutter is designed for severing straps, seat belts, mono-filament and any other material that will fit into the tool’s hook equipped with a recessed cutting edge. Capt. Chris Stanaback founded the Randall Knife Collectors Club (RKCC), an organization that promotes interest in, and discussion of, Randall knives. “I was very pleased to receive Gary Randall’s approval to found the RKCC more than six years ago,” Stanaback said. “The club more or less founded me, rather than the opposite. After Rhett Stidham*’s death, it became apparent that the need for the RKCC was there, and nobody else was going to do it.
